Makar Sankranti is usually celebrated on January 14, mark the beginning festive calendar of each year for most of India. Flying kites, bonfires, enjoying homemade delicacies is the order of the day. Makar Sankranti marks the transition of the Sun into the zodiac sign of Makara (Capricorn) on its celestial path. The day is also believed to mark the arrival of spring in India and is a traditional event. It is celebrated all over South Asia with some regional variations.
